Life without Anxiety and Emetophobia
Summer BBQ Tips!

or any party this Summer! Emetophobia does NOT have to ruin the fun!

  • tell one person that you’re going with. Sibling, Parent, Girlfriend, Boyfriend, whomever! Tell someone you trust, and ask them to be there for you if you need to step out for air etc.
  • If you worry about meat being cooked properly ask for it well done.
  • Bring your own dish if food prep is a concern. Most hosts appreciate it when guests make something for everyone.
  • bring the important stuff in your bag or an emetophobia survival kit
  • If caffeine gives you anxiety (it usually does effect it) opt for some juice
  • Drinking is a personal choice if you’re legal. Be aware of your limits and of course NEVER get behind the wheel.
  • have fun! Stay in the moment and enjoy. Don’t let Emet come along.
  • Don’t leave perishable food in the sun, when no one is eating that potato salad, put it away!
  • if acceptable, help cook. No mystery involved. No one to blame. You know it was cooked well!
  • Have fun.

My Rules for Being Happy with Emetophobia

These are just my ideas, what I’ve done etc. You don’t have to do ALL of them, or ANY of them, but I promise, if you give ‘em a try they will at least help a little!

  • Smile more, even if you don’t want to.
  • Do one thing every week that scares you.
  • Be a little selfish. It’s okay to say no sometimes. You need to take care of YOU.
  • Be honest with friends, family etc. The people who really care will stand by you no matter what. Anyone who would judge you isn’t worth crying over.
  • Eat what you want as much as you can.
  • Never, EVER, let fear win.
  • Exercise a healthy amount.
  • Meditate.
  • Find an outlet for your feeling, it could be a visual journal, writing songs or venting to a friend, but don’t bottle it up.
  • Make time to relax.
  • Stay busy (just not too busy)
  • Know when to ask for help (it doesn’t mean you’re weak)
  • Breathe
  • Laugh
  • Live

Emetophobia Awareness Day

“everyday may not be good, but there is something good in everyday”

Emetophobia ruled my life for twelve years. TWELVE YEARS. A lot can happen in twelve years. And a lot did. Good and bad, but they made me who I am today.

So here are the good things:

  • finding an amazing therapist who helped me through the hardest days of my life.
  • finding my inner strength
  • making so many friends on tumblr
  • making this blog (before I recovered) and finding SO MANY PEOPLE just like me
  • a greater appreciation of the little things in life that so many people take for granted. (like eating a meal out with friends)
  • Being able to help so many people now that I am recovered.
  • the future ahead of me without this phobia

And the not so good:

  • the 12 years I’ll never get back
  • the friends I’ve lost
  • the hours spent worrying and in fear
  • not being able to visit family in the hospital (from new babies to illness, my fear paralyzed me)
  • the mental pain that no one saw
  • the food I gave up eating

I’ll never forget the time in my life that was controlled by this phobia, and I hope to help as many of you as I can to be free by next May.

Tomorrow is Emetophobia Awareness Day!

A Much Needed Update

This post will go into a lot of detail, (and is possibly triggering) so I’m adding a read more , the choice is yours if you want to read it, my posts on this blog will continue as always, but I want to keep you all updated.
